She Walks in BeautySo We'll Go No More a RovingDon Juan
George Gordon, Lord Byron was the first modern celebrity — "mad, bad, and dangerous to know," as one lover described him. His verse romances sold out within days and his scandals filled the papers until he left England for good.
"She Walks in Beauty," written after seeing a cousin in a black mourning dress at a party, remains one of the most recited compliments in the language. He died at 36, helping fight for Greek independence.
