The Spot by the Door
1There's a worn place on the floorboards
2where you waited every day,
3sure — completely, dog-heartedly sure —
4that I'd come back.
5Now I'm the one at the door, old friend,
6learning your hardest trick:
7the waiting,
8without knowing how long.
9But you taught me how it's done —
10all faith, no clock.
11Good dog. Good dog.
