Lyric Poem · Nature

Time

by Percy Bysshe Shelley

1Unfathomable Sea! whose waves are years,

2Ocean of Time, whose waters of deep woe

3Are brackish with the salt of human tears!

4Thou shoreless flood, which in thy ebb and flow

5Claspest the limits of mortality,

6And sick of prey, yet howling on for more,

7Vomitest thy wrecks on its inhospitable shore;

8Treacherous in calm, and terrible in storm,

9Who shall put forth on thee,

10Unfathomable Sea?
