A Little Boy Lost
1"Nought loves another as itself,
2 Nor venerates another so,
3Nor is it possible to thought
4 A greater than itself to know.
5"And, father, how can I love you
6 Or any of my brothers more?
7I love you like the little bird
8 That picks up crumbs around the door."
9The Priest sat by and heard the child;
10 In trembling zeal he seized his hair,
11He led him by his little coat,
12 And all admired the priestly care.
13And standing on the altar high,
14 "Lo, what a fiend is here!" said he:
15"One who sets reason up for judge
16 Of our most holy mystery."
